Total Mobility Scheme
The Total Mobility scheme is a national scheme which supports people who are unable to use public transport to travel, all or some of the time.
In Auckland, those who are eligible get a subsidised rate on contracted taxis for door to door transport, and an accessible concession loaded on a Total Mobility AT HOP card used to pay for discounted travel on public transport.
Total Mobility customers receive a 75% discount off taxi fares, up to a maximum fare cap of $80 per trip. For trips over $80, Auckland Transport will only pay a maximum subsidy of $60 subsidy.
Communicare provides this service to eligible people which involves an appointment to assess your eligibility, and we offer this service in several locations excluding North Shore. Appointments are critical for this service and there is often a one to three week wait.

Eligibility criteria for the Total Mobility card
If you struggle to get to and from the bus stop, get on and off a bus or travel safely without confusion, you are likely eligible.
Also of course if you have any medical issues or anything diagnosed which makes public transport difficult.
The process
Our Assessors run through the form, take the ID photo and fee and upload to AT for approval or decline.
It’s a one-off $70 fee, and once approved, a card for life.
We take Visa, Debit card or cash only, no eftpos is available
Please provide a form of ID (A Super Gold card is fine)
From approval it takes 10 working days to arrive in the post, with instructions and a list of taxi companies.
